| Getting the Most Out of a Trip to the Doctor's Office
Yonkers, N.Y. - Consumer Reports - infoZine - Patients and doctors disagree on some essential issues according to three new surveys conducted by Consumer Reports National Research Center. The survey of 39,090 patients and 335 primary-care physicians revealed discrepancies between doctors' and patients' perceptions of following medical advice, the role of prescription drug ads in the exam room, and the value of online research of medical conditions. The full results of the survey as well as advice on how consumers can get better care from their doctors appear in the February issue of Consumer Reports. Among the survey's key findings: Following doctor's orders. Patients almost unanimously said they "completely" or "mostly" followed their doctor's advice. But 59 percent of doctors said their patients often failed to adhere to the prescribed course of treatment.
Taylor's premature certification
Since there will probably be some discussion on the topic of Taylor's album being certified platinum by the RIAA (at the behest of his record label), I thought it should have its own thread -- thanks, Babe, for the heads-up. I love how unquestioningly this news is presented, as in this example. There is, as those of you who have commented have quickly pointed out, a huge gap between 1 million copies shipped and 572,000 copies actually sold. And when Taylor's selling 11,000 copies last week (and 14,000 the week before), and the album's been out only a month, it seems highly incautious at the least for the label to seek certification so early. There's just no guarantee he'll make up those 400,000-plus albums. As a Taylor fan, I hope a single and other factors boost his sales pace (I think I said that earlier this week -- deja vu).
A Plan and a Registrar's Heartburn
Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 | It's hard to imagine there is an agency that has worked as hard in the last three years as has the San Diego County Registrar's Office. Sure, mayors resign in other parts of the country. City council members pass away and others also resign. Yes, congressmen get thrown in the pen in other parts of the country. .
